Something new on tap: Couple changes name, look and menu of downtown Grand Forks bar

After working at Gilly’s Bar & Grill for six years and purchasing the downtown Grand Forks establishment last year, Nick and Sarah Horak are ready to make the place their own.

The husband-and-wife business owners are transforming the late-night college hotspot into a bar focusing on craft beers and eatery featuring entrees that go beyond the usual bar fare of fried food.

Gilly’s will close for a few days this week and reopen Friday as Brick & Barley Bar & Restaurant.

Having a craft beer bar is something the Horaks say they have wanted for some time and hope the move will expand their customer base.

“Right now, downtown is lacking a bar for all ages,” Nick Horak, 28, said. “We want to make this a place that’s not just for young people.”

The rebranding of the bar includes a new name, new look, an expanded menu and dozens more tap beer choices.

“We want coming here to be more of an experience,” Sarah Horak, 27, said.

You can ready the rest of the story here.

You can check out the new establishment’s Facebook page for daily updates on menu items and drink specials. The old Gilly’s page is gone or you could have taken a peek at some of the dishes the gastropub will be offering.
