If a new city policy passes, families in Grand Forks will be able to honor loved ones lost in a traffic accident by purchasing a roadside memorial rather than creating one themselves.
The policy was given preliminary approval Tuesday by a Grand Forks City Council committee.
The policy would create an application process for people who want to use a roadside memorial to honor a family member killed in a traffic accident. The memorials would be standardized, feature a safety message, the accident victims’ names and could only be placed on major roadways in the city.
Families would have to pay a fee to have the memorial posted.
