GF City Council approves Springfest special alcohol license

After three weeks of debate, supporters of Grand Forks’ Springfest can have their party and drink beer, too.

The City Council approved a request for a special alcohol license and noise variance for the musical event at its Monday night meeting. The vote was 5-1, with council member Terry Bjerke dissenting and council president Hal Gershman abstaining.

Approval of the request allows organizer Rhombus Guys to continue planning Springfest, which is set for May 4 in University Park. Last year, the alcohol-infused music event attracted 4,000 people.

There will be increased police presence this year with the number of officers patrol the area’s perimeter doubling from six to 12, according to Police Chief John Packett.
