Speaking of emergency calls…
In a matter of 11 minutes, 18,132 calls went out on landline phones in Grand Forks County on April 8 as part of a test of a new emergency notification system.
That test marked the first for the notification system, which was unveiled March 15.
Code Red relays messages almost instantly from the city, county and other participating agencies such as the National Weather Service, according to Dean. It will be used to deliver messages about severe weather warnings, chemical spills, evacuations and more.
Grand Forks County residents and businesses can register online on here.
While signing up, residents can choose how to receive notifications, which can be delivered through phone calls, text messages and emails.
